Hubbs Sea World Research Institute Fish Hatchery

A 20,300 square foot aquaculture research facility (saltwater hatchery) built on the shoreline of the Aqua Hedionda Lagoon in Carlsbad, California. This hatchery is raising 400,000 white sea bass fingerlings for release along the coast between San Diego and Santa Barbara. The facility includes a complete sea water filtration system, a modern laboratory, attached glass greenhouse, and administration offices. Located on a 10-acre “dredged” site, utilizing a unique grading and support system for the building slab.  Financing for the project was facilitated through a partnership of Southern California Edison, The California Coastal Commission, and California Department of Fish and Game.
